Who should get the flu vaccine?
Flu can be unpleasant, but if you’re otherwise healthy, it will usually clear up on its own within a week.
The flu vaccine is recommended for certain people with existing medical conditions who are more likely to develop potentially serious complications from the flu and people in other high risk groups as detailed below:
- adults 65 and over
- pregnant women
- people with certain medical conditions, including children in at-risk groups from 6 months of age
- children aged 2 and 3 on August 2019
- children in primary school
- frontline health or social care workers
The flu vaccine can be given in injection or nasal form which is commonly used for children but supply is limited and it is not suitable for everyone, so it’s worth discussing this with Dr Shilpa before requesting your vaccine.
