Dr Haleema Sheikh
Private GP
After I completed my medical degree with an additional intercalated BSc in Clinical Neuroscience in 1998 I decided to explore a wide range of experience on a medical rotation in Southampton where I benefitted from an in-depth view of different specialities including gastroenterology, haematology, rheumatology, cardiovascular medicine, elderly care, and psychiatry. I completed my MRCP exams and rather than pick one body system to specialise in I realised that I loved being a generalist.
I decided to pursue a career in General Practice where I would have the opportunity to look at whole person health and wellbeing. I have been working as an NHS GP for 20 years now and in the private sector for over 10 during which time I have developed interests in lifestyle medicine and certified as a Functional Medicine practitioner through the Institute of Functional Medicine.
I also have an interest in Women health and hormonal imbalances during the female lifespan with a wide breadth of knowledge in dealing with health issues such as endometriosis, PCOS, PMS, perimenopause and menopause through the conventional lens and also with a more holistic functional aperture. I have completed the Diploma of Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive health and am well versed in hormonal contraception and fertility matters.
The mind body connection intrigues me and I am passionate about understanding the context and timeline of my patients to get to the root causes of their symptoms and work with them to make a personalised plan to rebalance the body and create health.
I recognise the importance of experience and leading by example to be able to empower patients. Living in in Kingston allows me to enjoy the greenery of Richmond Park and incorporate movement into the week with walks and runs. I have a daily meditation practice and love to get on the mat with yoga and go wall climbing.
